[…] During the days of Hajj, Masjid al Khaif becomes a central point of prayer for millions of Muslims from around the world. Its proximity to the Jamarat, where the symbolic stoning of the devil takes place, makes it a convenient and essential stop for pilgrims. Traditionally, this mosque is used for prayers during the Day of Tarwiyah, the 8th day of Dhul-Hijjah. Masjid al Khaif also played a central role during the Hajj of the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم. Abdur-Rahman bin Mu’adh (رضي الله عنه) narrated that the Prophet delivered a sermon in Mina, near this mosque, and instructed the Muhajireen to camp in front of Masjid al Khaif while the Ansar set up camp behind it. The rest of the Muslims were instructed to camp further back [Abu Dawood].
